squareWorks:Lab was set up by members in the uk, usa and india to encourage global interdisciplinary collaboration. sqw:lab takes translocalism as a foundational condition; it exists nomadically across borders, creating global networks while enabling “creative migration”. sqw:lab enables invited artists to work experimentally, share knowledge, and embrace peer-to-peer development through legacy-focused and collaborative “play projects”.
as such, sqw:lab practices a form of critical museology: it calls into question the foundational truths of exhibition spaces as clearly defined, localized and institutional. Instead, sqw:lab blurs the boundaries between domestic/private space, research/experimentation, and organizer/participant. sqw:lab cultivates innovative thinking while offering a global community of exchange for a diverse group of artists across the world. sqw:lab’s initial focus is on the themes drawing and the domestic, and place and process. sqw:lab was founded in 2018 and is current directors are vishwa shroff, architect goto katsushi, curator charlie levine and critic/curator rose van mierlo. for more information visit sqwlab.com |
